School to Celebrate DĆa de Los Muertos with Student Altar
Students at Jimmy Carter Early College High School are invited to honor the memory of loved ones during the schoolās observance of DĆa de Los Muertos. The celebration will include the creation of a community altar, where students are encouraged to bring photos, decorations, and traditional offerings (ofrendas).
In a letter to students, the school encouraged participation by asking them to contribute items to help build a colorful altar in tribute to those who have passed.
āThe letter read, Your contributions will help us build a beautiful altar in their honor, creating a space to reflect on and celebrate their memory. "
DĆa de Los Muertos, which dates back thousands of years, is a Mexican tradition that blends indigenous Mesoamerican customs with Spanish influences. It is a time to celebrate the lives of deceased loved ones by sharing joyful memories and offerings, emphasizing the importance of family, community, and remembrance.
āWe look forward to seeing your contributions and celebrating together,ā the school added.
The observance serves as both a cultural learning experience and a personal reflection for students, offering a way to keep the legacies of family and friends alive.
For more information on how to participate, students are encouraged to contact Mr. Silva in room E-115.
