Jimmy Carter Early College High School has proudly unveiled a special gift: a portrait of former President Jimmy Carter, painted by Dick Eliot, a professional jazz guitarist and talented portrait artist. The piece, completed in 1980, was presented to the school in honor of its namesake and is now prominently displayed in the school’s library.
Eliot, best known for backing legends like Elvis Presley, Sammy Davis Jr., and Andy Williams during his music career, was also a passionate artist. While on tour, he often used his downtime to create portraits of public figures. The Carter portrait reflects Eliot’s admiration for the former president, capturing his character and leadership.
"The portrait is not only a tribute to President Carter’s legacy but also to the power of the arts to inspire and connect people," said Principal Maria Hernandez. The school community is excited to have this unique piece of history in the library, where it will serve as an inspiration to students for years to come.
